Telegraph Station

Ok so the old telegraph stations was the original Alice Springs and was named after Sir Charles Todd's wife by a surveyor, W. W. Mills, whilst he was incorrectly naming a site as a spring instead of a soak. The town of Alice Springs only became known as that in the 1930's, originally it was called Stuart after the explorer of the same name.

  1. I like most readers of your blog have a very vague idea of Alice and the area around it. Mine is mostly fictional, as a boy I loved A Town Like Alice and the movie Walkabout mostly because of Jenny Agutter (who I got meet and photograph because of my Leeds daily photo). Neither of these sources will stand up to the Around Alice Springs but I look forward to the journey of discovery. So thanks Mike.

  2. That's really nice of you to say. I can always recommend a few good books if you're interested in the local cultures. But hopefully I can get a few more shots in before I leave in three weeks!
